Nope.
I set out this lovely morning and walked Mac to potty. I could hear the chickens being very upset about something, and rushed back in after Mac did his business, hurrying him and wailing “Move it! They’re making noises like something is out there that shouldn’t be!”
I gathered the morning feed and set out.
As I exited the house again, there was some sort of bird of prey in the back of the pasture. It had to have been an eagle, as it was bigger than the usual hawks, and didn’t look like the resident osprey.
Satisfied the intruder had been identified, I counted on just leaving the chickens in their pen today.
I fed them, and said hello to Pearl and the babies. And counted them. And…. one was missing.
In my un-caffeinated and oblivious state, I didn’t notice the rat snake two inches from my face…
Unfortunately, I was not wearing my brown pants.
Thankfully, the snake was docile after its meal, and the remaining chicks were collected and now they’re in the house in the brooder.
No one is happy.
